The just-released policy guide, Partnerships, Not Pushouts: A Guide for School Board Members on Community Partnerships for Student Success was developed by the Alliance for Excellent Education, American Federation of Teachers, CASEL, Coalition for Community Schools, National Education Association, National School Boards Association, Opportunity Action, Opportunity to Learn Campaign and the Rural School and Community Trust.
This policy guide provides a blueprint for how to provide better-coordinated support and opportunity systems for children and families, in partnership with key stake-holders, such as students, parents, teachers, other school staff, principals, district officials, community partners, and elected officials. This publication also examines the role of individualized learning plans and the leveraging of community partnerships in delivering more time, attention, and personalized and tailored resources directly to students.
In this policy guide, readers will learn how children can benefit from a Personal Opportunity Plan, from the time they enter the public school system until they graduate from college. In addition, this guide highlights districts around the country who use the "Community School" model as one strategy to deliver these needed supports. These districts show the different paths taken to build comprehensive education systems and can serve as models for community partnerships in other.
