Last Updated: June 16, 2009

Lydia Ducharme, a rising senior at Hazen Union School in Hardwick, Vermont has been named the 2009 Rural School and Community Trust recipient of the Leonore Annenberg Scholarship. Lydia is an exceptional student with a host of accomplishments inside and outside the classroom and sees "learning as a big part of her life." She is currently ranked first in her class at her rural high school and carries a GPA of 4.0. Lydia participates in three varsity level sports and has been named class president 3 years in a row all while working part-time to assist her family. Even with her course load of AP and Honors classes Lydia still finds time to participate in local civic activities. She referees athletic events for younger athletes and participates in her church choir. She hopes one day to become a high school Chemistry teacher.
The Leonore Annenberg Scholarship Fund identifies high school students who, in the face of difficult circumstances, demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and noble character. It then provides these students with scholarships covering all undergraduate expenses at academically rigorous four-year colleges or universities. Each Annenberg scholar is also partnered with a mentor to help guide the student through their final year of high school and into and through college.
